Various pilot-scale units have been constructed by students (undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD) and PostDoc staff under the frame of teaching and research projects.
- Sludge Treatment Wetlands for municipal sludge dewatering
- Vertical Flow Constructed Wetlands for municipal wastewater treatment
- Horizontal Subsurface Flow Constructed Wetlands for landfill leachate treatment
- Anaerobic reactor (UASB type) of laboratory-scale
- Anaerobic reactor (UASB type) of semi-industrial-scale
- Membrane Bioreactor (ΜΒR), ZW-10 type, semi-industrial-scale: the unit consists in an ultrafiltration system ZW-10 type of the company ZENON ENVIRONMENTAL Inc. The system can be used as a filtration unit and with some modifications as MBR system.
- Reverse osmosis unit: this experimental device is a product of the company GE OSMONICS (model RO-E2-0375-DLX5). It includes a membrane made of Desal AG2521TF. The system includes a pre-treatment unit to protect the membranes and to ensure a longer useful life time.
- Electrolytic oxidation unit of toxic wastewater
- Coagulation unit: comprises a Jar Test F.6/S device of VELP SCIENTIFICA. It includes 6 different glass containers each of 2 L volume, for simultaneous stirring.
- Ozonation unit
- Vertical Flow Constructed Wetland unit of semi-industrial scale with 2 parallel lines. One line had plants (Phragmites australis) and the other not, in order to study the evapotranspiration of the system
- Rotating Pyrolytic Reactor for Combustion and Evaporation of Solid Waste
- Laboratory scale pyrolysis oven with nitrogen supply capability
- Laboratory Scale Active Sludge System
